Tony Cork Wins 2010 Opener Despite Powerful Day from Williamson. . . . . . . . . .Click Here for Pictures

June 12th - The 2010 chair baseball season opened on a steamy Saturday afternoon with a handful of veterans on hand as well as the first ever female player to make an opening day start. Lauren Crawford, Josh Williamson's fiance, made the start after Greg Howard and Ryan Tomlinson were unable to make the game. Tony Cork and Williamson faced off on the mound with a steady wind blowing out to left center. Despite the friendly hitting conditions, the runs were hard to come by until the late innings. Williamson helped his own cause by blasting a solo homer to right in his first at bat, but the lead would not last long as Brian Garrard answered with a 2-run homer of his own in the top of the second to give Cork a 2-1 lead. Both pitchers were nearly unhittable for the next five innings as the game remained 2-1 until the seventh. Patrick Cork hit a solo homer to left off the glove of Dustin Waldrop for a 3-1 advantage and Tony Cork later followed with an RBI triple and Patrick followed with a bloop single that scored another run to break the game open at 5-1. Williamson hit another solo shot in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2, but Patrick hit a 2-run blast to center in the 9th for a 7-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the ninth. The home team tried to mount a late comeback as Williamson homered for the third time and Waldrop added a 2-run homer of his own, but it was not enough as Tony Cork was able to hold off the late rally for the 7-5 win.

Tony Cork picked up career win number 58 giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out a career-high 13 batters. Williamson took the loss allowing 7 runs on 14 hits. Williamson was the hitting star of the day blasting three solo homeruns in the loss while going 4-for-12. Waldrop was 3-for-11 with a 2 run homer and Crawford tallied her first career hit, a single, in defeat. Tony Cork led the way for the victors with 6 hits in 14 at bats including 2 RBI and 3 runs scored. Patrick Cork was 5-for-13 with a pair of homeruns and 3 RBI and Brian Garrard was 3-for-14 with a homerun and 2 RBI.

Tomlinson Comes Up Huge in Holiday Weekend Victory

July 3rd - Ryan Tomlinson made up for missing the opening day festivities in June with a career day at the plate in a big holiday win on Saturday. Tomlinson faced off against Brian Garrard on the mound, but his biggest contributions came at the plate. Tomlinson ran into trouble in the first inning as Chris Cork, playing in his first game since 2008 blasted a homerun into the ditch in left field for an early 2-0 advantage. Two innings later Tomlinson's defense let him down as Evan Woodard was unable to haul in a fly ball to right that scored another run and the visitors trailed 3-0 through three innings. However, Tomlinson responded in the top of the 4th by launching a 3-run homerun down the left field line to tie the score at 3 apiece. One inning later, Evan Woodard knocked in the go-ahead run with a single and Tomlinson plated a pair of runs with a 2-out single of his own to give him a 6-3 lead. Chris Cork added an RBI single, Tomlinson had another in the 7th and Brian Garrard knocked in a run in the bottom of the 7th as the lead was 7-5 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Just five outs away from victory, Tomlinson was unable to hold the lead as Chris Cork hammered another 2-run homer to straight-away center to tie the game at 7-7. With Garrard tiring on the mound, the visitors put together one more big inning that included six base hits and an RBI from all three batters (Patrick Cork, Woodard and Tomlinson) to push the lead to 10-7 for the final score.

Tomlinson had a career day at the plate going 7-for-15 with a homerun and 7 RBI. He also scored three runs. Patrick Cork was 8-for-16 with an RBI and 3 runs and Woodard was 4-for-15 with 2 RBI and 4 runs scored. Chris Cork led the way in defeat for the home team with a 7-for-14 effort that included a pair of homeruns and 5 RBI. Brian Garrard was 3-for-15 with an RBI and Tony Cork was 3-for-15 with 2 runs scored. On the mound Tomlinson was able to pitch around four errors and allowed 7 runs (4 earned) on 13 hits. Garrard suffered the loss allowing 10 runs (9 earned) on 19 hits.

Garrard Wins Game on the Mound and at the Dish. . . . . . . . . .Click Here for Pictures

August 7th - Despite a very solid day on the mound, Brian Garrard was frustrated for most of the two hours of Saturday's chair baseball game. However, a 10th inning single helped ease those frustrations and earned him his first career win on the mound as well. After starting the game 0-for-15, Garrard knocked in the game winning run in the top of the 10th inning and then closed out the bottom of the inning for a 4-3 win. Garrard was staked to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Patrick Cork, but surrendered the lead in the bottom of the inning on Lee Coakley's solo homerun into the road in left field. Cork hit a two-run homer in the top of the third for a 3-1 lead, but Paul Alf responded with an RBI single of his own to cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning. Alf, who was facing Garrard on the mound, appeared to give his team its first lead of the game in the bottom of the 4th with what appeared to be a three-run homerun down the left field line, however Patrick Cork threw him out from deep in the left field corner to keep the score at 3-2. Alf and Garrard traded scoreless innings on the mound until the bottom of the seventh inning when Justin Massey blasted a pitch onto the roof of the garage to knot the game at 3 apiece. Alf was lifted after seven innings and Lee Coakley came on in relief, but neither team could push across a run with both teams stranding runners throughout the late innings. Finally in the top of the 10th, with runners on 1st and 3rd, Garrard punched a shallow single into right field to knock in the go-ahead run. In the bottom of the inning, Coakley singled with two outs, but Garrard was able to get Alf to line out to deep left field to end the game.

Garrard escaped trouble throughout the game allowing only 3 runs over 10 innings of work. He allowed 15 hits (13 singles) and struck out one. Alf was solid on the mound allowing 3 runs (2 earned) in 7 innings off 11 hits. Coakley suffered the loss giving up just one run over three innings of relief on 4 hits. Ryan Tomlinson had yet another career day at the plate finishing with 8 hits in 16 at bats. Patrick Cork was 6-for-15 with a homerun and 3 RBI while Garrard's lone hit of the day was the game winner. Paul Alf led the way for the home squad going 6-for-16 with an RBI. Justin Massey was 5-for-15 with a solo homer and Lee Coakley was 4-for-15 with a solo homer.

Garrard and Cork Lead Team to Sweep in First Doubleheader of 2010

August 28th - Greg Howard appeared in his first chair baseball game since 2006, but his appearance wasn't enough to push his team to victory. With a steady wind blowing in from center, runs were expected to be hard to come by, however the team of Brian Garrard, Patrick Cork and Justin Massey got on the board in the first inning thanks to 4 singles off Greg Howard and then added another run in the second inning on an RBI double from Patrick Cork. They tacked on another run in the bottom of the third thanks to back-to-back errors by Ryan Tomlinson and Ross Massey in the outfield that opened the door for a Justin Massey RBI single with two outs. Meanwhile, Garrard was cruising on the mound using the wind to his advantage as it continued to knock down deep drives from the home squad. The game remained 3-0 until the sixth when Ryan Tomlinson yanked a homerun down the left field line with a runner on to cut the lead to 3-2. However, the lead moved back to three runs in the bottom of the 7th on a two-run triple off the back of Patrick Cork. With the game 5-2, Cork came on in the 9th to secure the save by striking out the side, while allowing a solo homerun to Howard for the final score of 5-3.

Garrard was outstanding on the mound winning his second straight start. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on just 6 hits over 8 innings. Howard suffered the loss going 6 1/3 innings and allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 13 hits. Patrick Cork led the way on offense going 7-for-14 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. Garrard was 4-for-14 and Justin Massey was 3-for-13 with an RBI. Ryan Tomlinson went 3-for-11 with a homerun and 2 RBI, while Howard and Ross Massey were each 2-for-12 with Howard knocking in a run on a solo homer.

Game 2 - Tony Cork took Justin Massey's spot for game number two and faced off against Ryan Tomlinson on the hill. Neither team could get any offense going through 3 innings until Patrick Cork got his team on the board in the top of fourth with a 3-run homerun onto the roof of the garage in right center. The floodgates opened in the fifth inning as Cork hit a solo homer to left, Garrard hit a solo shot to left center and Cork added another homer over the garage in right field to push the lead to 6-0 - and also chased Tomlinson from the game on the mound. Meanwhile, Tony Cork cruised through the first five innings allowing only a pair on singles, but Greg Howard moved his team into the scoring column in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run bomb to straight away center to cut the lead to 6-2. Garrard moved the lead to 8-2 in the eighth with a two out two-run single. A Ross Massey homerun in the bottom of the 8th completed the scoring at 8-3.

Following Garrard's sterling outing in game one, Tony Cork pitched six solid innings in the second game to pick up the win. He allowed two runs on 5 hits and struck out 8. Tomlinson took the loss giving up six runs in 4 2/3 innings on 8 hits. Patrick Cork picked up his second save of the day throwing the final three innings and giving up one run on two hits. Patrick Cork led the way offensively in the second game going 7-for-13 with 3 homeruns and 5 RBI. Garrard was 5-for-14 with a homerun and 3 RBI while Tony Cork went 2-for-13. Greg Howard went 3-for-12 with a two-run homerun, Tomlinson was 3-for-11 and Ross Massey was 1-for-11 with a solo homer.
